Recreational Skates
Most people begin with this style of skate. Recreational skates utilize a soft boot design with a slightly higher and more supportive cuff. This allows a comfortable fit but with the extra confidence of the rigid cuff helping to aid with stopping and giving confidence in the ankle support. Recreational skates are mostly used for around town and just cruising. These skates use slightly smaller wheels, usually 78 to 84mm, this helps keep the foot close to the ground for better balance. The recreational skates are not built for high speed skating, but for building confidence and having fun!

Fitness Skates
Similar to recreational skates, fitness skates use a soft boot but with a lower cut cuff to allow a longer stride due to less resistance to flex and a greater toe point. Fitness skates have larger wheels, up to 90mm, and longer wheel base lengths for sustained high speeds. These skates are also used for cross-training and allaround fitness use. These skates work very well for skiers looking to keep fit and tuned up for winter sports as well as for athletes wanting a fantastic low impact excercise.

Urban & Slalom Skates
Optimised for manoeuvrability and control. A mixture between hockey and recreational skates. These skates mostly use hard plastic shells to transfer the skaters energy directly to the ground. They are available in very short wheel base lengths for quick slalom turns and tricks, although in some cases also come with long wheelbase frames for high speed city and downhill skating for the bravest of street skaters.
Aggressive Skates
These skates are made specifically for doing stunts on skate parks, ramps and rails. They have smaller wheels, specially designed surfaces for performing grinding tricks, and are constructed to withstand extreme use.
Hockey Skates
These have short and highly manoeuvrable frames, medium size wheels, and usually armoured boots to protect from puck impacts.Hockey skates do not come with stoppers and are quite specifically built for hockey.

Speed / Racing Skates
Built strictly for speed these skates offer virtually no support and demand expert technique. They use the largest wheels of 100 to 110mm and not reccommended for beginner or intermediate skating.
